Are Caribbean Cruises All-Inclusive?
Quick answer
Most Caribbean cruises are not all-inclusive. Your fare covers your cabin, main meals, and basic activities, but alcohol, specialty dining, Wi-Fi, shore excursions, and gratuities cost extra. A few luxury lines do bundle most of these in for a higher upfront price.
Most Caribbean cruises are not all-inclusive in the resort sense. Your base fare buys a lot — your cabin, main meals, and most onboard entertainment — but a long list of extras isn’t covered. Drinks, premium dining, internet, shore excursions, and daily gratuities are charged on top, and they can add up fast. The exception is a handful of luxury lines that bundle nearly everything into a higher fare.
What your fare usually includes
On mainstream Caribbean lines like Royal Caribbean, Carnival, and Norwegian, the price you pay typically covers:
- Your stateroom and housekeeping
- Main dining room and buffet meals
- Most casual eateries and room-service basics
- Pools, shows, fitness center, and kids’ clubs
- Tap water, basic coffee and tea, and some juices
What costs extra
The “not included” list is where surprise spending happens:
- Alcohol and specialty drinks (sodas, premium coffee, cocktails)
- Specialty restaurants with a cover charge
- Wi-Fi packages
- Shore excursions in each port
- Gratuities, usually $16–$20 per person per day
- Spa treatments, casino, photos, and laundry
The all-inclusive exceptions
Some luxury and premium lines genuinely are close to all-inclusive — fares often fold in drinks, gratuities, Wi-Fi, and sometimes excursions. You pay much more upfront, but there are fewer add-ons onboard. On mainstream lines, you can get closer to all-inclusive by buying a drink package and prepaying gratuities, which bundles your biggest extras into one predictable price.
How to budget
Plan to spend extra beyond the fare. A realistic Caribbean cruise budget adds drinks, gratuities, a Wi-Fi plan, and one or two excursions per port. Knowing what’s not included up front keeps the final bill from catching you off guard.
